Suresh Raina hit a fine fifty helping Chennai Super Kings beat Kings XI Punjab by 5 wickets in their Indian Premier League clash on Sunday. With the defeat, Punjab's hopes of qualifying for a playoff berth was dashed. Chasing 154, Chennai didn't get the start they've wanted as Ambati Rayudu departed for 3 runs in the second over off Mohit Sharma's delivery. Faf du Plessis (14) didn't get many runs while Sam Billings (0) and Harbhajan Singh (19) also faltered in the run chase. However, it was Raina (61*) and Deepak Chahar who controlled the Chennai innings in the middle overs. Chahar was dismissed by KXIP captain R Ashwin for 39 runs. Dhoni (16*) remained unbeaten in the end and supported Raina ensuring Chennai crossed the finishing line. Ankit Rajpoot (2/19) was again at his bowling best for Punjab. (SCORECARD)
Earlier, Lungi Ngidi's fiery bowling spell (4/10) helped Chennai bowl out Punjab for 154 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday. Put into bat by Chennai, Punjab got off to a worst possible start after losing Lokesh Rahul (7), Chris Gayle (0) and Aaron Finch (4) within the first four overs. Manoj Tiwary (35) played a key knock in the middle with help of David Miller (24) to restore some faith for Punjab after losing early wickets. Ngidi took the crucial wickets of KL Rahul and Gayle to halt the momentum of Punjab. Karun Nair (54) was the lone ranger for Punjab as he hit some good looking shots helping Punjab reach a competitive total. He hit a 26-ball 56 runs laced with 5 sixes and 3 boundaries. However, Ngidi hogged the limelight with his stupendous bowling display. Shardul Thakur and Dwayne Bravo took two wickets each.
